5 June 2016 - End of Seminary Year

Stephen's old missionary companion, John Quincy Adams the fourth,
was part of the company that provides rafts and training for scouts.
This week included Memorial Day, Late Start at KentLake with 2 days at work, dinner at Brian and Ruth's and the End of Seminary Breakfast. It was a busy week.
Memorial Day was a day to get organized. Stephen and Samuel went of a river rafting trip to prepare for their weeklong high adventure activity with the Scouts this summer. They were gone all day and into the evening. By the time they got home they were exhausted, cold and hungry. After a hot shower they were able to talk about their trip. Samuel got thrown out of the raft and into the cold river where he says he spent "a long time" under the water. He was pulled back into the boat by their 19 year old guide since the boys couldn't do it. He enjoyed telling what a scary experience it was that he almost drowned. Of course, there appeared to be some exaggeration on his part.
On Tuesday,  Ruth invited Stephen and I to dinner for her birthday along with Cameron and Janet and Ruth's mother Judith. They cooked up hamburgers on the grill and I brought fresh strawberries from the patch in our back yard. There was cake but it was a left over one from a party the weekend before but it was still good. Not worth making another.
Wednesday was late start but I had to work so I was at the hospital by 7:00 and given a patient that was in early labor with late decels. I had to keep the IV running with boluses now and then and oxygen on her to keep her from having a c/section. She delivered close to 2:00 in the afternoon which put me behind with charting and I got out of there late, especially since she wanted her cord blood banked. It just takes so much longer when you do extra procedures. The cool thing about her was that her mother who was there with her and the father of the baby, was going to graduate from medical school in 18 days. That was impressive. She raised her kids and then went back to college at age 40 and was finishing up 12 more years. She said that her husband and kids really encouraged her. That reminds me of my great husband and how he encouraged me to get my Master's Degree.
Thursday was the last lesson for  Seminary. I tried to get the kids to bare their testimonies but they just didn't want to talk. It made the lesson more difficult but they did express what they learned this year about the Old Testament, so all was not lost. That night we set up the gym for the breakfast. Becky LeDosquet had games that she was so excited about and I had the table clothes. We all had assignments for the meal. I  had to prepare 3 Mountain Man Casseroles to cook up just before we ate, which meant I was up by 4:30 and awake by 4:00 worrying that I'd miss the alarm.
Breakfast is served.

Bruce Johnson taking out the bad guys.

Br. Ellsworth building the tower of Babel.

Students making "Joseph of Eqypt"
into a mummy.

Br. Porter catching "hailstones".

Stephen with some of my class.
Friday went well. There were more kids there than was anticipated so we set more chairs around the tables we already had set. The food was great and the games were fun. It was a successful event. Stephen had to give the thought before the food was served and the kids were hungry and ready to eat but he did a great job.
Saturday Stephen went to the temple and I went to work again. I had an induction that no one could get the IV started on so we couldn't give her medication for her induction. She was over 41 weeks and really needed to have her baby but she was a tough stick. Over 7 tries from 4 different nurses, until IV services were available to start her line. I didn't get to do much because of that. That night there was a baptism of a young man in the ward, Samuel had his second basketball game of summer league and I went to the Pacific Ballroom Dance Concert with Ruth. Samuel's team lost but Ruth and I had a great time watching so many young people perform. They have started a satellite group in the Seattle area and there was a number of youth that danced in that group. It was great to see the growth of this company because it does so much good for the youth that participate.
Sunday was church, choir practice then we came home to get ready to receive Cory and the kids coming for the week. They arrived just as we were leaving for Seminary graduation. That was a nice end of Seminary except for the fact that they released 3 of the best teachers. Brothers Sumpter, Johnson and Porter. They called a new couple, the Duffy's, from Sawyer Woods and Brother Madsen who will be teaching the zero hour class.
Jarom's birthday is the 6th of June and he wants to go to Enchanted Village. That should be fun for everyone.
